Women's World Cup 2009: Bowlers take Sri Lanka to series victory, Live Streaming

Sri Lanka Women defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the final of the Women’s Tri-Nation Cricket series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Tuesday. Chamari Polgampola and Shashikala Siriwardene led the bowling attack taking three wickets each to bowl out Pakistan to 123 all out in 47.1 overs.

Choosing to field first, Sri Lanka tightened the screws early on when right arm medium pacer Polgampola dismissed the openers cheaply in successive balls in the third over leaving Pakistan stunned at 14-2. The fall of wickets continued at regular intervals and only Javeria Khan put on some opposition with her 23 in 32 balls to bring the total score to 123 all out. Polgampola finished with figures of 3-16 and was ably supported by off-break spinner Siriwardene (3-24).

In reply, the Sri Lankan chase did not prove to be much difficult as the batters opened briskly. However, a brief scare followed in the Sri Lankan ranks when Pakistan skipper Urooj Mumtaj picked up two wickets in the space of three balls in the 26th over. Hiruka Fernando then posted an unbeaten 44 runs that saw the side home with more than 14 overs to spare.

Chamari Polgampola was named both Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series for her outstanding performance. The victory comes as a major confidence booster to the Sri Lankan team ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia beginning on 7 March 2009.
